It is a well-known thing that in order to be able to offer something for free, you need to have that particular commodity in the first place. This is why those who are seeking free money for college shouldn’t limit their search to governmental sources and state authorities. While these have the resources and the desire to pay for grants, they are not the only sponsors. Independent organizations are also making large contributions and help those who they consider to be worthy, with significant amounts of money. In some cases, these financial aids can be more generous than what the official institutions are offering.

The reason they go so far with generosity is that they can afford to do it, and they know very well how important it is to make a positive impression. Nobody likes a big corporation that uses outsourcing or ships jobs overseas and gives nothing back to the local community. Since managers are aware of how the public opinion can influence sales, they will frequently offer grants that bear their name to brilliant students who can’t afford to pay for college. It matters little that there is an interest behind this donation, because those who enjoy these grants can pursue their dreams and earn a diploma.

Some of these grants are based solely on need while others have merit as the decisive factor, but what both have in common is the generous proportion. A corporation can’t afford to look cheap and insult the students with a few dollars, so they make sure that their grants like college grants for women over 50 are going to cover a large part or the entire tuition. You need to present yourself in the best light and pay attention to the values that these institutions cherish, because the right approach will greatly increase your chances to succeed.

The reason college grant money exists is to finance the need of those who can’t afford to pay for tuition and to give them a fair chance of pursuing a degree. If you look at the statistics, you will find out that the costs are growing steadily each year, and they have been so, for the last couple of decades. This makes it critical for the government to interfere and support the ones who have the skills to go to college, but find the costs prohibitive.

Students with low incomes or no income at all, will find sources of financing in both federal grants and the ones offered by universities and colleges. Some of the best colleges nationwide are ready to offer lucrative grants for the right students who could help them strengthen their prestige. It is a mutually beneficial partnership that will give you the chance to prove that the college grant money they invest in you is well worth it.

If you put this source of financing into balance with student loans, you will discover that the differences are negligible in terms of amounts. What matters most is that unlike a grant, the loan carries interest, which needs to be paid as soon as you graduate

While you check out what the college you plan on attending has to offer, don’t forget that the state is the main supplier of college grant money. The federal government offers the famous Pell Grant and the work-study program for financially disadvantaged students, and the money carries no interest or future obligations.

The National SMART Grant is reserved to those hard-working students who deserve to be supported throughout college and just like the Academic Competitiveness Grant, it is a merit based grant. You shouldn’t limit yourself to one type of grant, because by applying to more, you greatly increase your chances of getting the money you need.

Most businesses start up small and grow gradually, with the lack of funding being the major obstacle blocking your way to the desired results. The only solution for the problem is to get the money from somewhere and use it as capital for your fledgling business, with banks being the traditional partners.

Unlike a few years ago when these financial institutions seemed willing to credit almost any venture regardless of the risks, now they are very careful and will deny most applications. The small business government grants are no easier to get, but at least you have the chance of enjoying money that doesn’t need to be paid back, so all your profits can be reinvested.

What you should do in the beginning is to create a business proposal, something that you would be supposed to do if you choose a bank, so it’s not something that you can avoid anyway. It is time consuming as all the research and estimations take some time, and it is essential not to overlook anything, even if they seem to be nothing more than details.

Depending on what time of business you plan to run, there might be more of less time spent with drafting the proposal, but the potential benefits or receiving small business government grants outweigh the inconveniences. You can learn about the government grants franchises.

Once this stage is complete, you can work on two directions and submit the application to the institutions that offer small business government grants and banks, for business loans. It is wise to keep an open mind and ponder all the alternatives, instead on risking everything on one card. After all, even if you are accepted for more types of financial aid, you will have it easy to choose between them and even use the money in conjunction to speed up the process.

Sexting, a word I wasn’t even familiar with myself until recently; until I overheard two distressed looking mothers discussing it, whilst I was trying to catch a cab home one evening. I didn’t catch all the conversations as they spoke under their breath – but the word ‘sexting’ repeated over and over and at first, I thought I had been misunderstood. Speculative as always, arriving home, I googled it in and was shocked at the results tallying up in front of me. So what did I find out?

I felt a wave of nausea to read that children in their teens and those who are barely in their teens, were using their new camera cellphones to take vulnerable photos of themselves and send them between other cellphones and shock, horror – even sending them on a direct path into the realms of the cyber world. Since that evening, the word ‘sexting’ has been popping up left, right and center – a continuous knot in my stomach. I am by no means a prude, and it is no big news that children as young as 11 and 12 are already curious about sex – but this is taking it too far.

One button push takes a split second, but those photos will do the rounds for what will feel like an eternity, scarring innocent childhoods. We worry a lot about our children’s impulsive actions and now this – the new phenomenon of sexting is a serious matter that requires parents to speak tactfully with their children. To think we had the worst of internet consumption through freely available porn sites, whatever next? I dread to think.

Within America, the question “Can this be taken for a grade?” has become common in every classroom. Nevertheless, I think the question that should even be asked often is “What is the essence of grades?” Presently, a kid’s report card shows grades that do not just reveal the child’s academic performance, but also include other aspects like behavior as well as attendance. Can we really learn what we want to find about our kids’ education using the traditional grading systems?

Is there Anything Amiss with the Traditional Grading System?

Perhaps so much, that’s what the perception of most professionals. Using the conventional grading system, late work, additional credit, participation in the class as well as assignments not related to academics can impact a child’s grade or score. Although these factors outlined to reflect life skills and play an essential role, they are not real parameters when it comes to determining a student’s performance or knowledge in terms of educational content.

Eric Harder and Curtis who are both teachers in Austin, Minnesota School discovered problems with this in their school. In their school, you could find a diligent student who has excellent life skills performing poorly in standardized test; notwithstanding, such student may still get a passing grade. On the other hand, a student who has second-rate life skills and grades that are relatively poor may likely top the class after taking the same standardized test

Thus, if the non-academic factors have become the significant parameters in determining the grade of a student, then it means grade raise (giving higher total scores to substandard work) may likely turn to be a problem. These two teachers – Harder and Bartlett are of a strong opinion that traditional grading has high prospects of representing a kid’s success academically or in class.

These two teachers (Harder and Bartlett) who taught the eight-grade students’ math in Austin, Minnesota School had taken it upon themselves to research on grading as an aspect of funding partnership with the University of Minnesota, Hormel Foundation, as well as Austin Public Schools. As these groups ventured into this research, they have explored the book ‘A Repair Kit for Grading’, written by Ken O’Connor. According to this author – who is also an evaluation and assessment professional, traditional grading (which considers several non-academic factors like conduct as well as participation) does not actually represent kids’ knowledge accurately.

Harder and Bartlett were able to discover a solution for this discrepancy through ‘A Repair Kit for Grading’ (Ken O’Connor’s book). And what is that solution – evaluation accuracy should be increased by dividing kids’ scores into parts that are more accurate. Now, a philosophy known as Grading for Learning has turned to be a new assessment philosophy born of what merely started as a curious act by Harder and Bartlett.

The new philosophy – Grading for Learning differentiates the two components of the traditional grading system; it accomplishes that by assigning a content knowledge grade to each student, as well as life-skills grade related to the student’s behavior.

According to Harder, in order to enable parents, colleges, teachers and also the students themselves get a grasp of what they are being taught, it is not practicable to give the one-letter grade to a student.
